The One Place You’ll Find All the GOOD Celebrity Dirt
Nearly unprecedented until about a year ago; now, it’s quickly becoming the talk of the web. It boasts supporters like Holly Robinson Peete, Ludacris and even Michelle Obama’s office. Unlike, it’s counterparts; it’s a place spotlighting the good that celebrities are doing in their communities. Call it good celeb gossip. Clear of negativity. It’s all about positivity. “I started Black Celebrity Giving because with working with celebrities and PR [Public Relations], I noticed there wasn’t a lot of support for celebrities who are doing positive things in the black community in general. I wanted to let people know that there are positive things going on all around the country,” says Jasmine Crowe. Crowe founded the non-profit supporting organization a year ago. “Our first anniversary is July 27. That’s next week! We’re celebrating in New Orleans and we’re honoring three local non-profits in the New Orleans area.”
Satisfied with the progress her organization has made within its first year, Crowe is still very surprised by it. “I honestly didn’t think it was going to be as popular as it is right now. I’m obviously very happy about that.” Something Crowe is also elated about is the way her organization through the BCG website has assisted with reuniting lost people through its feature called Black and Missing. “Every day, we feature black and missing people. It’s great to do that. Since we started, we’ve reunited seven people with their loved ones.”
As Crowe moves forward, she already has a detailed plan on what she sees BCG doing in the clear and immediate future. “Right now, we’re doing a campaign with neo-soul artist, Kem. We’re doing a drive with him collecting toiletries for homeless communities. We’re doing four “cause campaigns” per year. Already this year, we did a book drive to fight illiteracy. So, we were able to get four thousand books donated to different non-profit organizations across the country that supported reading. We’re now doing our toiletry drive for the homeless community. In September, we’ll be doing a shoe drive. That’s going to be great because it’s going to involve HBCU’s [Historically Black Colleges & Universities]. So, I want to continue doing major cause campaigns across the country and continuing trying to get people to give back.” And, while carrying out her cause; Crowe hopes you’ll help her and your community and get involved. “I want to reach the everyday person who doesn’t think they can give back. It doesn’t always have to be about money. Sometimes, it’s just about time and doing things like volunteering.”
